Sports Loyalties…..Forced or Chosen?

    by Big Daddy Mowrer

While at work today, the wife sends me the cutest picture of my daughter in time for the Eagles MNF game tonight against the Redskins and it got me thinking about sports team loyalties. Everyone has that one friend that is Cowboys, Red Sox/Yankees, Notre Dame fan with no connection to the E - A -G - L -E -Steam/school whatsoever. I myself have been a fan more of the players than of the team. I used to like the Golden State Warriors because of Chris Mullin, Tim Hardaway and the killer crossover, and my favorite Latrell Spreewell. I am a big fan of the Detroit tigers just because Cecil Fielder was so fat and out of shape, all he did was swing for the fences (a poor man’s Matt Stairs). I started rooting for Louisville a couple years ago when their basketball team was really good and their football team was putting up 60+ points a game. My dad went to Penn State, so growing up I rooted for them and whoever else he rooted for, same with professional sports. Vice versa, I hated teams he hated. Should that be the way though? Should my daughter have to be an Eagles, Sixers, Flyers, and Phillies fan? What if she comes home one day with a Romo jersey? Do I still love her? Probably, but I can’t be certain. I feel she should have the opportunity to choose her team, with the hope that she will want to like and watch what I do. All four Philly teams have good players and good people to root for, outside of Michael Vick. I hope she does the right thing and likes who I do because she wants to be closer to Daddy. If not, I just hope it isn’t the Cowgirls.

Daughter sets world record of diaper changes.

    by Big Daddy Mowrer

As a new father, one thing I did not expect is the numerous diaper changes that happen every day.  As an adult, I figure between number 1 and number 2, I go about 8 times a day (I drink a lot of water).  My daughter needs changing between 10 and 15 times a day.  If you figure that a child is potty trained at the age of 2, that’s 365 days a year x 2 years x avg. 12 diapers a day = 8760 diapers in a child’s early years.  8760!  When we had our baby shower, we got so many diapers that I thought we should return some.  I’m thinking, what the hell are we going to do with this many diapers, it’s a years worth.  And it seems like a waste of a diaper just for a little whizz.  Someone should invent a diaper where it soaks up the water, then stores it in one section of the diaper so that the diaper can continue to be reused.  In this “Go Green” world we live in nowadays, it seems like such a waste.  The cool thing I found out is that they make newborn diapers that are shaped so that they curve around the umbilical cord.  Smart thinking.  Anyway, to all you soon to be fathers out there (you Wals), stock up on diapers.  If you see them on sale, just pick up a pack, cause you go through them fast.
