Goodbye HDMI

    by Mike Agnew Jr.

Technology has always been an elusive being.  Much like a child throwing a temper tantrum in an isle of Toys R Us, we try to hold on but it always manages to slip through our fingers.  When the big HD craze came around, it was the first real innovation in television.  First, you bought an HDTV and you were the cool guy on your block for all of 5 minutes because the Hendersons next door just got a Widescreen HD.  Then it became a matter of size.  People went for "the bigger the better".  Then you had to upgrade to 1080I, then 720P, then 1080P, then LCD and Plasma and LED and Backlighting and True Color and pixels per square inch and lumens and...

Who cares?  really.  Most of you won't see the difference.  And with 3D TVs, I couldn't care less.  I see it as a gimmick and the wrong direction for TV to go.  But the other day I was reading an article about a new standard that will replace the HDMI cable you dropped $30 bucks at Best Buy for even though it's a $3 cable.

This new standard is nothing to laugh at. In fact, it will probably make most of our parents feel like grandparents as they try to understand.  The new standard is called HDBase_T.  It runs on the ethernet cable you already own. (Cat5e/6)

"Agnew, whats so great about that?"

Well, I will tell you.  It not only provides video but power to your HD TV.  And not just one video but all your video, all your audio and even your internet connection over one cable.  That means the back of your beautifully polished, wafer-thin  TV will run on one cable.  No more rats nests or conduits in the walls.   Just a simple Ethernet cable you already own.  Pretty cool.

Find out more at http://www.hdbaset.org/

And if you though HD was at the peak, I heard SuperHD comes out next year.  HA.

Last Night’s Agnew’s Cabin Live

    by Mike Agnew Jr.

All in all I think it was a good show and a good start. Sadly we learned that visuals that were on the screen for the live broadcast were not recorded. I think this is just the way UStream is so make sure to tune in to see the graphics and videos during the live show next time. See you next Thursday.

Facebook Infected with Magarity Virus

It seems that Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is "faced" with a new problem.  It turns out his numbers are wrong.  There are not the 300 million users thought to be on facebook but actually 3 Magarity sisters and a handful of their friends.  Somehow these three have been able to comment, post, and tag everyone and everything on facebook.  At first Facebook webmasters thought it to be some sort of phishing virus.  They initially thought that one of the "Magarity 3" had her password stolen by a virus and was able to instantly comment on all posts of her friends simultaneously. Zuckerberg held a press conference on Monday where he had this to say:

"When we found out that this was a normal person doing this we just could not believe it.  She must have had several windows open and been clicking and typing faster than anyone we have ever seen.  It was the first time comments have been posted before the actual post.  We dubbed her E.R.I.N. which stands for Extremely Responsive Impulsive Notificationer.  This is similar to a case we saw last October where a single user we have labeled L.E.V.I.N.S. was able to post 10,000 Phillies updates in 3 microseconds."

Authorities at Facebook have been expanding their server base in order to support these three.  E.R.I.N alone took out half of the eastern seaboard with her SDAND attendance emails alone.  The other two sisters seem to be focusing on reporting army intelligence pictures and what appear to be Mexican soda ads.  Until we get more word on these three, all we can do is sit back and watch them reak havoc on facebook, their digital playground. Zuckerberg went on to say:

"This is just the tip of the iceberg, just imagine if they get smartphones like the iphone or droid.  They could comment on anything anywhere anytime.  God help us all."
