Pirates, Wizards, Hobits, Batman and Shrek rule past decade.
by Jon HassingerI know this is what everyone is doing in every category of life, right now, so I thought I'd mark out and join the band-wagon.
I give you the highest grossing films of the last decade, from each year (2000-2009).
Amazingly, 9 of the top 13 grossing movies of ALL-TIME(Without inflation adjustment), were released in the last decade (2001-2009).
Amazingly even further, the year 2000, did not release a film in the Top 50! That movie, which I was not able to sit through 30 minutes of, even while watching during the Christmas season, grossed $286,031,035.

Next, I believe is the only Harry Potter movie I have, and will ever, see.
2001 - $974,733,550.

This movie, if my memory serves me correctly, won more special effects Oscars than Terminator 2: Judgment Day. And it should have...."MY PRECIOUS!"
(2002) $925,282,504.

So Peter Jackson had something going, huh? Back to back years with the highest grossing film. The finale to the Lord of the Ring's trilogy, and in my opinion, the best. However, I would like to make clear, that there is only 1 "Return", and it's not "Of the King", it's "Of the Jedi". Thank you.
(2003) $1,119,110,941.

That was followed by the highest grossing Animated Film of All-Time. An Instant classic, that not only out-did the original in every way, but added new characters who helped rake in the merchandise cash, 10 fold.
(2004) - $436,471,036.

I never saw this, and I never will.
(2005) $895,921,036.

Johnny Depp and crew confirm, that Jack Sparrow wins again.
(2006) $1,066,179,725.

And surprisingly enough, after I thought the world was pirated out, following in the footsteps of Mr. Jackson's back-to-back Lord of Rings run, Depp does it again. Not grossing as much as 'Chest', but enough for the year's top spot. I do however maintain that 'The Curse of the Black Pearl', the Franchises original, was the best.
(2007)$960,996,492.

This movie does not get old no matter how many times you watch it, and by far the best of the decade. Not only was it one of the best Super-Hero movies, but Action movies, ever. Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Cane, Aaron Eckard, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Morgan Freeman grab you immediately and do not let go for 1 second.
(2008)$1,001,921,825.

And to wrap up the decade, 2009 gave us another Harry Potter blockbuster, that I will not see.
(2009) $934,559,990.
